SONG MEANING

Kempi and guest vocalist Willy turn "Hier Ver Vandaan" into a raw diary entry from the perspective of a terrified child. Through stark, straightforward Dutch, the narrator describes a home ruled by alcohol, violence and sexual abuse: a drunken father beats the mother, while an uncle imposes even darker trauma. Each verse piles fear upon fear, and every "Waarom?" (Why?) rings out like an alarm the adults keep ignoring. The title itself means "Far Away From Here," and that desperate wish becomes the heart-beat of the chorus: a prayer to God for a place where fists never fly and unwanted hands never touch.

Behind the harsh images lies a powerful social message. Kempi chooses vivid storytelling over preaching, inviting the listener to feel the child’s isolation, shame and longing for safety. The repetition of "’t is zoveel" (it is so much) shows how overwhelming abuse can be, while the refrain "’t is oké" tries to convince the speaker as much as anyone else. By spotlighting issues often hidden inside family walls, the song calls for empathy, conversation and change. "Hier Ver Vandaan" may be painful to hear, yet its honest portrayal of suffering turns the track into a moving plea for hope, protection and a life free from fear.
