Papa Pingouin is a cheerful tale about a penguin dad who is bored stiff on his icy home and longs for adventure. As he watches birds soar past the moon, he imagines stuffing a suitcase and gliding far above the clouds. In his day-dream he becomes a globe-trotter, sliding from England to Paris, Rome, Naples, and the warm blue Mediterranean. Every splash into the sea and every slip on the ice fuels his wish to trade his heavy feet for wings.
Yet the chorus of voices around him keeps asking, “Why go so far? Life is beautiful right here!” By the end of the song our wandering bird realizes that his wings are only in his imagination, his suitcase is unnecessary, and the shimmering banquise he once found dull is actually perfect. The playful lyrics remind us that while dreaming big is fun, sometimes the greatest comfort is returning to the place we already belong.
