Europapa Lyrics in English Joost Klein

Below, I translated the lyrics of the song Europapa by Joost Klein from Dutch to English.
Europe, let's come together!
Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
It's now or never!
I love you all!
Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
Welcome to Europe
Stay here 'til I die
Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
Welcome to Europe
Stay here 'til I die
Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
Visit my friends in France
Or take off to Vienna
I wanna leave the Netherlands
But my passport's gone
Luckily I don't need a visa
To be with you
So I take the bus to Poland
Or the train to Berlin
I don't have money for Paris
So I use my imagination
Got a euro please?
Say 'merci' and 'here you go'
I've lost it all
Except for time
So I'm traveling every day
Because the world's mine
Welcome to Europe
Stay here 'til I die
Europapa, Europapa
Welcome to Europe
Stay here 'til I die
Europapa, Europapa
Europapa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa
Europapa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa
I'm in Germany
(German)
But I'm so alone
(German)
I'm in Italy
(Italian)
But it still hurts
I'm running away from myself
I'm yelling 'help!' all day
I even give people money
But nobody helps me
I don't want escargots
Don't want fish 'n chips
Don't want paella, no
I don't even really know what that is
Turn the radio on
I hear Stromae with 'Papaoutai'
Won't stop till they say
He does it well
Welcome to Europe
Stay here 'til I die
Europapa, Europapa
Welcome to Europe
Stay here 'til I die
Europapa, Europapa
Euro-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa
Welcome to Europe, boy!

SONG MEANING

Europapa is Joost Klein’s turbo-charged love letter to an open-border Europe, sung from the perspective of a broke but fearless backpacker. Losing his passport and running out of cash cannot stop him; with nothing but time on his hands, he buses to Poland, trains to Berlin, daydreams about Paris and shouts a contagious Euro-pa-pa hook that glues the continent together. By sprinkling Dutch, German, Italian and French phrases, Joost turns the track into a linguistic postcard that celebrates freedom of movement, cheap travel and the kaleidoscope of European cultures – escargots, fish and chips, paella and all.

Yet beneath the party horns and dance-floor energy hides a tender theme of loneliness. The narrator keeps fleeing from himself, handing out coins for help that never arrives, and craves connection just as much as adventure. That bittersweet twist transforms the song into more than a tourist anthem; it is a spirited reminder that unity, empathy and a shared beat can make even the biggest continent feel like one vibrant hometown. Welkom in Europa – stay until we die!
