Yo Soy El Dealer Lyrics in English by Lefty Sm, Santa Fe Klan
Trucha literally means “trout,” but in Mexican slang it means “alert,” “careful,” or “sharp.” In the song, “ando bien tranquis pero trucha como mono” means he may seem relaxed, but he is still watching closely and ready for anything, making this a memorable example of Spanish slang and double meaning.
“Yo Soy El Dealer” [“I Am the Dealer”] builds a larger-than-life image around the word dealer. The speaker says everyone is looking for him because he has “el veneno” [“the poison”] and “la dosis perfecta” [“the perfect dose”], something powerful enough to control the whole area. The lyrics mix drug-dealing language with music: the “dose” is also his voice, his style, and his flow, meaning his confident rap delivery. When he says, “Te entrego mi voz” [“I give you my voice”] and “Te regalo mi cuerpo” [“I give you my body”], performing becomes a full offering to the listener.
The song keeps its energy high with danger, swagger, and playful street slang. Sirens are singing, his “perros sin cadenas” [“dogs without chains”] are alert, and a substance runs through his veins and wakes him up. He says he has grown “paso a paso” [“step by step”], refuses to give up, and knows where he is going. Later, the microphone becomes his tool: “prendí el micrófono” [“I turned on the microphone”], and he talks as if he is selling a powerful product that causes chills. The references to ice, a happy little car, football points, and “les cayó su papa” [“your dad has arrived”] add jokes and bravado. It is a loud character piece about control, reputation, and the addictive force of the artists’ music.
