Años Luz Lyrics in English by Romeo Santos, Monchy & Alexandra
Doncella translates to "maiden" or "damsel". It's a beautiful, old-fashioned word that you might find in fairy tales about knights and princesses.
In this bachata ballad, Romeo Santos uses mi doncella (my maiden) as a term of endearment. It's a deeply romantic and chivalrous way to show that he sees his love interest as pure, precious, and worthy of honor, elevating her above all others.
"Años Luz" is a bachata track by Dominican-American singer Romeo Santos alongside the legendary duo Monchy & Alexandra, and it takes romantic compliments to an extreme level. The singers trade lines about an overwhelming, cosmic kind of devotion. Romeo kicks things off by admitting that if he never sees his partner again, he could never detach her from his soul. Alexandra matches his energy instantly, singing "No existe otro hombre en la tierra / Que me haga temblar de las piernas" ("There is no other man on earth who makes my legs shake"). The track doesn't hold back on dramatic declarations: Romeo even sings "Voy a agregarte a la biblia por divina y tan buena" ("I'm going to add you to the Bible for being so divine and good"), which is hilarious and slightly blasphemous, but it definitely gets his point across.
Beyond the huge poetic claims, the lyrics play with fun imagery and Spanish idioms. When they sing "Te amo tantos años luz" ("I love you so many light-years"), they misuse a unit of astronomical distance as a measure of immense, endless love. Romeo also sets up a funny hierarchy of devotion with "Primero Dios luego tú, mi doncella" ("First God, then you, my maiden"), putting his partner right behind the Almighty. It's a playful, high-energy bachata dialogue where both sides try to outdo each other in declaring who is more completely obsessed.
