Confidente is a person you trust with your secrets, someone you can confide in. In the song, he calls her “mi confidente” because she knows his past, his dangerous life, and remains loyal to him through difficult times, giving the word an intriguing sense of both intimacy and secrecy.
“Confidente” presents a dangerous love story through the voice of a man involved in crime. The woman beside him knows his secrets, his past violence, and his enemies, yet she stayed when life was difficult: “ella se quedó en las malas” [she stayed with me through the bad times]. Now that he is doing better, he wants to buy her a coat and share his success. Calling her “mi confidente” [my confidante] means she is the person he trusts with everything, including the illegal world around him.
The lyrics are packed with street slang and armed-crime imagery: “kilos” refers to large quantities of drugs, “una nueve” means a 9 mm handgun, and “la ley” [the law] is always looking for him. He describes money growing from grams to thousands, parties with a band, weapons, lookouts, and enemies. The relationship is fiercely loyal but also extreme: he promises to protect her, says nobody can separate them except death, and repeats that they were “nacimos para ser bandidos” [born to be bandits]. It is romantic in its loyalty, but bluntly dangerous too. The woman is not presented as a bystander. She knows the business, warns him about threats, and stays at his side while both of them live as fugitives.
