Amor Con Hielo Lyrics in English by Morat

Sirenas are the 'sirens' from mythology, beautiful creatures who lured sailors to their doom. It's a captivating and uncommon word to find in a pop song.

In "Amor Con Hielo," the singer uses it metaphorically in the line, "Yo me quedé en las sirenas, tú te ahogaste" (I stayed with the sirens, you drowned). He suggests that while he was distracted by other temptations, his ex was the one who ultimately 'drowned' after abandoning their relationship 'ship'.

Colombian band Morat brings their signature upbeat folk-pop sound to a breakup track that is refreshingly petty and triumphant. Instead of wallowing in sorrow, the narrator celebrates finally being over an ex who bailed too early. He rubs it in that she jumped off a ship that never actually sank ("Saltaste tú de primera / Dejando un barco que al final nunca se hundió" [You jumped first / Leaving a ship that in the end never sank]). The ultimate proof that he has moved on? He cannot even remember the name of her dog anymore ("Yo ya me olvide del nombre de tu perro" [I already forgot your dog's name]), and another kiss has completely wiped away whatever imaginary debt she claims he owes her.

The song's title comes from a clever metaphor about trying to preserve a romance that was already doomed: "Yo intenté salvar todo este amor con hielo / Y se murió" (I tried to save all this love on ice / And it died). In Spanish, keeping something con hielo (on ice) implies trying to chill or preserve it for later, like food or a drink. But you cannot freeze feelings to keep them fresh. He warns his ex not to come collecting old emotional debts ("No vengas a cobrarme porque no te debo nada" [Don't come to charge me because I owe you nothing]), reminding her that hitting first does not mean you win the fight.
