HUMBE’s “MURALLAS” is a love song about wanting someone who feels close enough to admire, yet impossible to reach. The singer is captivated by the person’s eyes and begs, “No te vayas” [Don’t go], hoping they can talk and take a photo together. Then the central image arrives: “Las murallas que te rodean” [The walls that surround you] keep him outside, looking in. These walls can be understood as the barriers around the other person’s life, because the lyrics never say exactly what created them. He wants to enter, but “Solo ver de lejos es lo que me queda” [All I have left is watching from far away].
The song becomes colder and lonelier in its second verse. He sits in an empty room, remembers the past, and asks, “¿Cómo lleno lo que tú llenabas?” [How do I fill what you used to fill?] He even says he can see his breath because of the cold, a very physical way to show how alone he feels. Still, he wishes this person happiness in “otra casa, otra vida, otra suegra” [another house, another life, another mother-in-law]. Here, “suegra” means mother-in-law, while “amar a ciegas” [to love blindly] means loving someone completely, without holding back.
