Testimonio means “testimony” or “personal account,” especially a sincere statement about one’s experiences or beliefs. In the song, Humbe calls his lyrics his testimony as he openly sings about his struggles, flaws, and “demons,” giving the word an intimate and powerful meaning.
Humbe’s “QUÍTAME LAS ALAS” sounds like a defiant answer to people who say he will never succeed. The image is wonderfully bold: “Quítame las alas y veme volar” [Take my wings away and watch me fly]. Even without wings, he insists he can rise. Then the song shifts underwater, where “Somos tan transparentes debajo del mar” [We are so transparent beneath the sea] and “Tan vulnerables ya sin respirar” [So vulnerable, already unable to breathe]. It is a strange, memorable image for being completely exposed, with no way to hide or pretend.
The speaker also admits his flaws and pain. He lets someone confess and share their troubles, then describes being hurt and healed with kisses: “Después de dañarme / A besos sanarme” [After hurting me / Heal me with kisses]. He calls the song his testimony and sings about his demons, saying he is no saint and has no deal to offer. The slangy line “Putiza aguanto” roughly means “How much punishment can I take?” and gives the verse a blunt, almost joking edge. By the end, he says he has nothing to lose or hide, while critics classify and take advantage of him. Still, his answer remains the same: “aunque la gente me diga: Tú nunca vas a triunfar” [even if people tell me, You will never succeed], he will fly anyway.
